Ann Garner's Diet Sheet

I feed one evening meal (about 4 pm) to each of my 6 house dogs (all my dogs are house dogs) :-) A typical meal for one dog 65-75 pound GSD:

  1. Meaty bones in the form of 1 huge turkey neck or a handful of chicken necks or backs -- or pork neck bones or meaty beef bones (maybe 6 -8 ozs); during active time or cooler weather, a bit more. Plenty of bones in most bowls.

  2. 1 handful of organ meat of some kind: kidney, heart, spleen, gizzard, etc.

  3. 1 palmful of chunk or ground muscle meat (usually ground beef) with at least 25% fat mixed with green leafies, fresh or dried herbs.

  4. Occasional treats of nuts or berries

  5. vit B,C,E

  6. 1 or 2 fish body oil caps (omega-3 fatty acids)

I figure the Shepherds each get about 9-12 ounces of thawed or fresh raw meat, not counting the bones, each day. The BC who weighs less than 30 pounds gets considerably less.

Twice a week or more, I will add dried ground sea weed, because sea weed is richer in trace minerals than the veggies grown in our depleted soils.

I also use raw eggs occasionally instead of the organ meat. And I vary quantities of each meat, but always am careful that each bowl contains plenty of chewable bones. Too, the dogs always have marrow bones to chew on. Aids digestion and affords plenty of calcium.

I have left off feeding a lot of vegetables and use mainly flaked or ground up herbs and seaweed (Source)-- about a TBSP per meal per dog.

I often add apple cider vinegar and garlic to the vegetable matter.

I do use supplements because I have one dog with UAP and another that is showing early signs of DM. :-( That is why I have gone over to using Dr. Clemmons' herb mixture as my veggie mix.

I keep the water bowl freshened at all times, which helps them take in enough water.

It is not a program for everyone, and anyone who objects to seeing dogs go through the necessary detox if they have been on a standard commercial kibble diet with no supplementation, might not be comfortable with this regimen.
