What's Agility?

My mom has been taking me to Agility classes for a while now. A lot of people don't know what she is talking about when she mentions it so she 'splains it to them. She says, "Agility is a dog sport that involves interaction with different kind of obstacles. The dog either has to go through the obstacle (in the case of a tunnel or a tire), go over an obstacle (in the case of an a-frame or a jump), or stop on an obstacle (in the case of a box or a table). Agility is a great way for a dog to learn confidence and learn how to work with their human handler."

The first time we went to class I barked at the other dogs in the class and that wasn't a real cool thing to do I found out. But I did it some more anyways. After 6 weeks of doing agility I wasn't barking at the other dogs and my mom even took me to a practice dog show where I humiliated her completely in a Novice trial. She had fun though and she said something about maybe doing more of that 'bedience stuff. Check out the page she started on Obedience.

My mom says that there are different organizations for agility and that each of the different organizations has different rules. She says that the general goal is the same no matter what the organization is. See, they make this course and on the course there are different obstacles. What I'd have to do is run around the course and listen to my mom tell me which obstacle I need to go to next. Then, depending on which one it is, I would have to go over it or through it, or stop on it. My mom says that there are these spots called contact zones on each obstacle and that I have to touch these contact zones so that we don't lose points or get disqualified. Oh, she also said that the faster that we can do this, the better.
