November 19, 2003 -- that's the exact date at which this website fell into disrepair. Cheyenne, the black and tan German Shepherd dog who started building this website in 1997 when she was 2 years old died unexpectedly that day following surgery to remove a massive splenic tumor that was probably hermangiosarcoma. She was 8 years old...
After Chey died, Daybreak came to live with us. A muddy, unsocialized, rambunctious critter. She and Chey had lived together for a short period of time -- Day was repossessed from her previous owner due to failure to pay and we traded her and Cyke for a little while so that we could tell our friend, her breeder, what kind of home would be good for her. We sent her back to Virginia the week before Chey died and she came back to us the following week. Wagging. Happy. Disbelieving that she was back where she was supposed to be.
We had more warning with Day than Chey. She had surgery on December 6, 2007 to remove two tumors and the pathology report came back as malignant apocrine adenocarcinoma. On December 20, 2007 she had a chest X-ray which showed that the cancer had metastasized into her chest. They said that she had days, maybe a couple of weeks, at most a month.
On January 18, 2008, we released Day from her pain via euthanasia. DogSpeed little girl. It doesn't surprise me that many of the pictures that I have of you are black blurs of muddy fur. You were always moving, playing, plotting mischief, and rolling in the mud.
Chey and Day both lived in Maryland with Dax, Cyke, Gabe (an African Grey parrot) and Fredo (a C*T). Here's the story about how Chey came to live with us.
Chey was never thrilled about getting baths. I wrote a story about one of the bath episodes.
Chey got her CGC in December of 1997 and her BH in May of 2001. Dax got his CGC in September of 2000. Cyke is the completely titleless wonder.
Chey's pedigree thanks to Yvonne Hecht
